Ok y'all so I've successfully had color treated hair for the past 6 months and let me tell you I've learned a lot during that time. The biggest issue us curly girls can face is lack of moisture and loss of curls/texture. I've gotten lots of questions about how I've maintained healthy hair while colored, and deep conditioning is MAJOR key (DJ Khaled voice).
Let me be the first to say though that not all deep conditioners are made equal y'all, so I narrowed it down to my top 3 ...
( Pro Tip: I make sure to rotate my conditioners so that I'm keeping a good balance of moisture and protein in my routine, weak hair or hair in need of protein will struggle to hold on to moisture)
NYM's - Matcha Green Tea & Wild Apple Blossom Nutrient Rich Butter Masque
This little gem packs a punch. It is amazing at helping the hair be infused with moisture. It has great slip which helps with thoroughly working the conditioner into the hair and detangling. It's also affordable which as we know with hair care products is always a win.
Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Diheptyl Succinate, Capryloyl Glycerin/Sebacic Acid Copolymer, Fragrance (Parfum), Behentrimonium Chloride, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Powder, Malus Domestica Fruit Extract, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Distearyldimonium Chloride, PPG-3 Benzyl Ether Ethylhexanoate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Glycerin, Quaternium-80, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Citric Acid.
Redken- Extreme CAT Anti-Damage Reconstructing Rinse Off Treatment
This treatment is not the traditional creamy textured hair masque you may be used to but its great at infusing the hair with needed proteins. I make sure to follow the directions when using so as to avoid getting protein over load and I use this on average once a month. I like to follow up by applying a moisture focused treatment to make sure my hair stays soft.
(Pro Tip: When searching for protein treatments look for "Hydrolyzed proteins" these are small enough in size to actually penetrate and strengthen hair strands)
Ingredients: Aqua/Water/Eau, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Magnesium Sulfate, Laureth-23, Taurine, Sodium Benzoate, Parfum/Fragrance, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Salicylic Acid, Polyquaternium-10, Arginine, Lysine Hydrochloride/Lysine Hcl, Phenoxyethanol, Linalool, Hexyl Cinnamal, Citronellol (D50156/2).
Ouidad- Curl Recovery Melt Down Mask
This treatment is amazing for my hair. It helps to repair and strengthen the lipid barrier of hair strands. This helps promote healthy springy texture and prevents future damage to hair. For even more benefits try using this treatment with a hair steamer.
(Disclaimer: this mask may not working for everyone I've found people either love it or hate it ... I'd recommend buying from a retailer with a great return policy so you can get a refund in the instance this doesn't work out for you.)
